The Derek Marvelly Artisans Award for Excellence

Formed in 1994, the Artisans’ Guild Australia was formed to promote, develop and encourage the highest standards of skill and practice in the decorative arts, crafts and trades. Common characteristics amongst Guild members are integrity, enthusiasm and excellence, pride in their trade and skills, and the sharing of knowledge.

Founding Chairman, first President and a key figure of the Artisans’ Guild, Derek Marvelly has shown all of these characteristics throughout his long career and his daily life continuously striving to promote and encourage levels of excellence, integrity, ethical practice and pride in learned skills both with himself and in others.

Derek Marvelly has mentored and helped a great number of people over many years through his work, and it is on this basis, the Artisans’ Guild Australia is proud to announce a special award to be presented each year starting in 2018, in recognition of an Artisans’ Guild member who has shown all of the key attributes outlined – enthusiasm, integrity, ethical standards in their chosen field.

The criteria for this award encompasses Outstanding Artisan Skills; Passion for Creativity; Commitment to the Artisans’ Guild Australia

This is to be known as The Derek Marvelly Award for Excellence and a specially designed certificate will be presented in honour, respect and thanks to someone we are all proud to know.
