We have known for some time that there are many talented people in Australia who have been practising their particular craft in isolation. It is our long term hope to draw many of these people together to share in our fellowship. Many have brought their skills from overseas and many Australians have gained their skills from masters long gone, in turn they have become masters in their own right and may be regarded as best in their particular fields.
Our main concern is that this great wealth of knowledge and experience may become lost to future generations.
The Charter of the Artisans’ Guild Australia written and ratified in May 1995 identifies as its key purpose ‘to promote, develop and encourage the highest possible standards of skill and practice in the decorative and pictorial arts, crafts and trades [“the decorative arts’], including painting and decorating, wood carving, furniture making, sign writing, floor polishing, picture framing, stone masonry, illumination, mosaic, gold beating, ceramics, stained glass, conservation and restoration, sculpture and other like arts, crafts and trades’.
Our aims at the Artisans’ Guild are to apply the highest degree of integrity in all our dealings and to assist the preservation of those skills that have been built upon by many generations of artisans, assisting each other and enthusiastic students to similar or higher levels of excellence and placing this vision as a moral and ethical standard to guide their daily lives.
